Bring banking into the Bitcoin Age.
Galoy is a team of engineers building a core banking system that treats Bitcoin, stablecoins, and dollars as equals on one ledger. We got here the unusual way: by building Bitcoin banking software for a community in El Salvador first, and for regulated institutions second.
Our story
In 2020, Nicolas Burtey read about a town in El Salvador using Bitcoin as everyday money, traveled there, and built the community a mobile application: the Bitcoin Beach Wallet. People in El Zonte used it to hold and spend Bitcoin, and when El Salvador passed its Bitcoin Law the next year, use of the app spread across the country.
Operating that app for years taught the team more than any whitepaper could about running money software: money never stops moving, and the books have to balance anyway. The wallet became Blink, which continues today as its own business. Galoy took what it learned and turned to a harder problem: a core banking system for regulated institutions.
Today that system is one ledger holding dollars, euros, Bitcoin, and stablecoins in a single double-entry model, for banks new enough to choose their core instead of inheriting one.
Investors
We are fortunate in who backs us. Craft Ventures, Kingsway Capital, and Valor Equity Partners back companies that build serious B2B software for the long haul. Trammell Venture Partners, Fulgur Ventures, and Hivemind Ventures are among the most committed Bitcoin-focused investors anywhere. Our angels include Vijay Boyapati, Balaji Srinivasan, and Brad Mills.
Team

Nicolas Burtey
Started building Bitcoin banking software in 2019 and has not stopped.

Justin Carter
Runs engineering. Spent years building cloud infrastructure before that.

Andrew Begin
Leads strategy. A decade in financial services technology before Galoy.

Dan Hersey
Writes code and content.

Tim Normark
Works on the event-sourced core.
How we work
Remote-first, across many time zones. Much of the work is public before it is finished: most of the code is open source, and so is the platform we use to run AI agents against our own banking codebase. A bank evaluating us can read the system.
Contact
Anything about the platform, an evaluation, or working together.
Open applications, including from people whose role isn't listed.
Interviews, media requests, and the company boilerplate.
